Garnet

Qualities

  • Angular shaped mineral abrasive
  • Produces a rough, uniform, matte finish with a sharp texture
  • For profiling, cleaning, and the removal of paint, corrosion, rust, scale
  • Grain shape and high bulk density result in a fast cutting and stripping abrasive with relatively low dust
  • Used extensively in water jet cutting
  • Suitable for moderate reuse although less durable than most fused electrominerals

Specifications

  • Angular shape
  • MOHs hardness: 7 – 8
  • Approximately 145 lbs/cu. ft. bulk density
  • Available in grits sizes based upon sieve screen measurement

Silicon Carbide

Qualities

  • Extremely hard and sharp abrasive
  • Will produce a matte surface finish
  • Capable of metal removal
  • Highly friable abrasive media which is reusable but less durable than brown aluminum oxide
  • Cleaning or etching the hardest sub-surfaces
  • May be required for some applications that require brazing or welding after blasting
  • Used for grinding, lapping, and wire saw cutting as well as abrasive blasting

Specifications

  • Angular shape
  • MOHs hardness: 9.5
  • Highly friable abrasive
  • Micro grits available
  • Approximately 105 lbs/cu. ft. bulk density
  • Manufactured to ANSI Table 2 grit sizes
  • Custom grit sizes and blends available

Steel Grit

Qualities

  • Solid, angular media with high density
  • Produces a rough, uniform, matte finish with a sharp, coarse texture
  • Used in both airblast and wheelblast equipment for blast cleaning and profiling steel and other hard surfaces
  • Application must tolerate metal removal and aggressive blast energy
  • Will produce exceptional cleaning rates in both air and wheel blast equipment
  • Available with different hardness specifications to tailor the material to the contaminant, profile, and surface finish requirements

Specifications

  • Soft 40-50 Rockwell C
  • Medium 56-60 Rockwell C
  • Hard 60-66 Rockwell C
  • Angular shape
  • SAE sizing G120 – G10
  • 7.3-7.6 grams/cubic centimeter specific gravity

Steel Shot

Qualities

  • Used in both airblast and wheelblast equipment for blast cleaning or peening steel and other hard surfaces
  • Also used in the cleaning and preparation of concrete
  • Application must tolerate potential ferrous residue
  • Round abrasive media that is extremely durable and dense
  • Will produce exceptional cleaning rates in both air and wheelblast equipment
  • Available with specific hardness, roundness, and size specifications as required for certain peening applications

Specifications

  • Round shape
  • Typical 40-50 Rockwell C
  • SAE sizing S-70 – S-780
  • Special peening shot 55-62 Rockwell C
  • 7.3-7.6 grams/cubic centimeter specific gravity
